The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical, polyphonic tape replay keyboard from 1963 that was made popular by the likes of The Beatles, Moody Blues, King Crimson and Genesis. After its popularity had declined in the 1980s due the existence of various polyphonic synths and samplers, bands like Radiohead and Oasis brought it back into the limelight once again. This resulted in the resurrection of the original manufacturer in 2007, Streetly Electronics, which had ceased production in 1986.
I’d previously released the free first SB Mellotron Live Pack Bundle containing 10 Live Packs with various Mellotron sounds. Because I’ve created more Live Packs since, I’m now putting out the SB Mellotron Live Pack Bundle 2. It comprises eight Live Packs that each contain one Simpler preset as well as four macro mapped Instrument Racks. Each Live Pack is self-installing and was made in Ableton Live 9.7. The individually notes were each sampled and kindly provided by Taijiguy.
If you’re looking just for the samples as wav files, they can be downloaded for free as well (Mellotron Samples #1, #2 and #3).
SB Mellotron Bassoon Live Pack (No. 66)
One of the racks simply adds easy access to useful parameters of the Reverb, the others are a bit more adventurous as you can hear below.
SB Mellotron Church Organ Live Pack (No. 67)
This Live Pack contains a Simpler preset as well as four fully macro-mapped Instrument Racks, one with controls to add reverb, one heavily distorted, one with stutter delays and one dreamy arpeggiated one.
SB Mellotron Trombone & Trumpet Live Pack (No. 68)
This third Live Pack of the second series contains the individually sampled Mellotron Trombone & Trumpet in one Simpler preset as well as four fully macro mapped Instrument Racks. One of the racks simply adds easy access to useful parameters of the Reverb, another one’s great for arpeggiated sounds, another for a degraded brass sound, and the last one is a mix of reverb and delay.
SB Mellotron 8 Choir Live Pack (No. 69)
The Live Pack contains the individually sampled Mellotron 8 Choir in one Simpler preset as well as four fully macro mapped Instrument Racks, all including reverb and one of the various delays in Live.
SB Mellotron Tenor & Alto Sax Live Pack (No. 70)
If I’m not mistaken, this one is also known under Two Saxes as it includes an alto and a tenor sax, each note individually sampled. The Live Pack contains a Simpler preset as well as four fully macro-mapped Instrument Racks, one with controls to add reverb, one flange-y one, one quite distorted sounding and one with resonant delays.
SB Mellotron Orchestra Live Pack (No. 71)
The Live Pack contains each note individually sampled of the tape preset within a Simpler preset as well as four fully macro-mapped Instrument Racks, one with controls to add reverb, one with a tube saturated sound, one arpeggiated one and another one called Filter Grains that creates shimmering sounds.
SB Mellotron Mixed Brass B Live Pack (No. 72)
The Live Pack contains a Simpler preset as well as four fully macro-mapped Instrument Racks, one with controls to add reverb, one adding a pinch of digital and vinyl degradation each, one arpeggiated, and one adding shimmery grainy delay 5ths.
SB Mellotron Italian Accordion Live Pack (No. 73)
The Live Pack contains a Simpler preset as well as three fully macro-mapped Instrument Racks, one with controls to add reverb, one great for drones or pad sounds and one shimmering.
I would be happy to receive a small donation if you are able to do so as a token of appreciation. Otherwise just add a zero to the price field. Gumroad no longer offers PayPal as an option, so if you’d like to donate using PayPal, you can do so above. Thank you very much!
To install, just double-click the alp-file. They are all self-installing Live Packs and after the installation can be found under the Packs section in Live’s browser. The individual presets are also shown in the respective categories under Instruments.
