Creative Extensions: 8 Inventive Free Max for Live Devices by Ableton

Ableton have just released a new free Max for Live Pack. Creative Extensions includes eight tools designed for new sound design features in Live 10 Suite and was created in collaboration with Amazing Noises. This collection includes new ways to pitch shift and sequence melodies and delays, creative and characterful studio processing, a device that creates reverb-like spaces, and two reworked Max for Live synthesisers.

Check out the video to get a first impression:

Creative Extensions include:

Melodic Steps

This MIDI sequencer is great for evolving melodies and polyrhythms. Its interface was designed to encourage experimentation and new discoveries through play. Use the randomise functions for creative sparks.

Pitch Hack

Pitch Hack consists of a single delay line with transposition control, as well as the ability to reverse audio, randomise the transposition interval and fold the delayed signal back into itself. It’s great for glitchy effects, rises and much more.

Gated Delay

This audio effect is a delay with a gate sequencer that sends the incoming signal to a delay line on activated steps. Much like a send effect that is turned on and off in a defined rhythm. Great for glitchy stuff, particularly because it has randomise functions.

Color Limiter

This effect was inspired by the gritty sounds achievable with hardware limiters. Tweak the Saturation and Color parameters to create characterful sounds.

Re-Enveloper

This is a multiband envelope processor that divides the signal into three adjustable frequency bands, which are then affected by an envelope for each band that can be compressed or expanded. Attack and Release knobs control the responsiveness of the effect.

Spectral Blur

With Spectral Blur you can create sounds and textures best described as reverb-like. Define the frequency range of a signal that will be blurred to create a dense cloud of sound, which makes it a good choice for sharp filtered effects with narrow bandwiths or for spreading your sound across the whole spectrum.

Bass

Bass was already released for Live 9. The monophonic virtual analog synthesiser is made for bass sounds from classically deep and clean to heavily distorted, rumbling tones. The four oscillators are now individually tunable.

Poli

Poli, also available since Live 9, is a virtual analogue synth designed for classic polyphonic chords and phrases. Its vintage character comes from de-tunable oscillators, a powerful modulation section, built-in chorus and more.

If you own Live 10 Suite or Live 10 Standard and Max for Live, you can now download Creative Extensions directly from the Packs section in the Live 10 browser under Available Packs by clicking the download icon, then clicking Install. Or get it from your Ableton account if you prefer the old fashioned way.

My fave devices after a quick test so far are Pitch Hack, Gated Delay and Melodic Steps as I’m sure I will make use of them quite frequently both in the studio and for my live performances. What are yours?
