For those of you interested in OSCiLLOT that weren’t quite sure if it is the right thing, I’ve got good news. Max for Cats have just released a free Lite version of it. As the name suggests, it doesn’t come with as many features as the full version, but it’s still a lot of fun to use. It’s also a great tool to get into synthesis and learning how to patch a modular synth without needing the extra space.
Limitations of the Lite version:
- only 3 voices polyphony
- 26 modules (compared to way over 100 modules in the full version of OSCiLLOT)
- no audio/MIDI send modules
- only a few Presets (10 instrument presets, 6 audio FX presets)

And for those of you who call a copy of OSCiLLOT their own, there’s good news, too. Version 1.1 is out today with added compatibility with Max 7 and a new Macro Mapping feature that allows you to control any parameter in OSCiLLOT via automation and MIDI. As it has been the case with every previous update, there’s also new modules. This time not by Max for Cats, but fellow Max for Live developers Surreal Machines.
