The beta of Live 12.4.5 was just released, and it comes with something huge. Ableton Extensions.
Extensions are accessible through context menus of tracks, clips, MIDI, devices, tempo, and other parts of a Live Set to automate tedious tasks, transform MIDI or audio, and add sheer endless new features to Live’s feature sets. The applications are literally sheer endless.
If you don’t know JavaScript, don’t worry. There are already many extensions out after just two days that you simply can install and use, and there will be many more. I’m sure this will become as big an ecosystem as Max for Live.
Watch the Video:
1 Strip Silence
This extension lets you strip the silence in the selected region of one or multiple audio clips with adjustable parameters for Threshold, minimum length of silence and more.
2 Assign Track Name to Clips
Comes with two options: one to simply give the clips the track name, or the track name plus a number. It works in both views.
3 AkStretch
Right-click any audio clip in the Arrangement View to stretch it to a target duration with configurable grain size and pitch correction. Great for sound design.
4 PaulStretch for Live
Another treasure for sound design. This extension brings the legendary PaulStretch plug-in into Live, extreme time-stretching with lots of extra features including binaural beats.
5 Transition Tool
Create noise, note or verb risers/impacts on the fly by selecting an empty space on an audio track in Arrangement View, opening the extension, then applying the chosen settings.
6 MLR Grid Slicer
Right click a clip, select the number of slices you want, and watch the slicing magically happen in Session View with rainbow coloured clips.
7 BBenCut
Also a slicing extension, but this one works on audio clips in Arrangement View, and applies BBCut breakbeat cutting algorithm to them.
8 Smart Batch Exporter
It lets you batch renders every clip on an Arrangement View audio track and imports them into your Live project as individual audio files, all in one click. The Live Set has to be saved first for it to work.
9 Duplicate Tracks
This extension duplicates a track with all settings and devices but without the clips.
10 KeyPulse
Right-click any audio clip in Live to detect key or BPM and tag the information in the clip name automatically.
11 Chord Voicing Helper
This extension can detect the chords in a MIDI clip, and lets you apply a voicing strategy, with piano and staff visualisations.
12 Chord Progression Helper
Creates chord progressions from any key and writes the result as a MIDI clip, with two distinct harmony modes for different musical styles.
13 Able-MCP
16 deterministic right-click MIDI transforms (Variation, Humanize, Strum, Thin, Half-time, Top voice, etc.) plus a parametric Shift modal. Works on Session View clips and Arrangement View time selections.
14 Ableton Score Editor
Right-click a MIDI clip, open a score editor opens directly inside Live. Any edits made in the score can be written back to the clip immediately, making it possible to move seamlessly between MIDI programming and notation entirely within Live.
15 Device Manager
Manage and bulk disable, enable, or delete every instance of any device across your entire Ableton Live Project from a single searchable dialog.
16 Wavetable Sprite Lab
Allows you to create custom audio files to use in Ableton’s Wavetable or Simpler instruments. The Exported Wavetable Sprite file can be dragged directly into Wavetable’s OSC window, or Export as a Simpler sample to have the file loaded into Simpler.
