Karplus-Stronger, a new free Max for Live synth by Team Banzai, is, as the name already suggests, based on the Karplus-Strong algorithm. It allows a method of physical modelling synthesis that loops a short waveform through a filtered delay line to simulate the sound of plucked or hammered strings or some types of percussion. The layout is a bit too wide, but other than that, it gives you plenty of great sound options. Especially for a free synth.
It offers:
- 1 “string” oscillator with 7 waveforms (white, pink, random, sine, square, saw, triangle)
- 1 regular/layered exciter oscillator with 7 waveforms
- 16 voice polyphony
- 2 4-type filters (lowpass, highpass, bandpass, notch) with envelope (1 per oscillator)
- individual envelopes for string OSC exciter, string OSC amp, and OSC 2 amp
