The new MIDI Tools features introduced in Ableton Live 12 was designed to be highly intuitive and user-friendly. While some are, others are not as much. The two new generators in the aptly named Live Pack, Generators by Iftah, fall firmly into the former category. They are very intuitive and have a high chance of producing a musical output. The Live Pack is currently still in public beta.
While Patterns is a brand new MIDI tool and an algorithmic drum pattern generator, Sting will certainly catch the attention of many users. Sting is the MIDI tool version of the popular acid line generator.

Although the MIDI generator has a simple set of features, don’t let that fool you. The algorithmic output is consistently high quality. You can choose which drum sounds to activate, adjust the MIDI note numbers to target the correct drum pads and set the rate in note measures. So, once you’ve done that, just press ‘Generate’. You’ll get some pretty cool and inspiring drum patterns that’ll get those creative juices flowing.

The MIDI tool version of the (in)famous acid line generator features the iconic smiley face, which is clicked to generate a new acid or melodic line. However, the typical ‘Generate’ button is also present. You can set the root note, transpose the sequence, adjust the accent amount, as well as the rate in beat measures. There are also different pattern algorithms, and note density and gate parameters to choose from.
