After releasing the Mellotron samples separately, I’m doing the same now with all the original Fairlight CMI samples that were previously only available in my free Fairlight CMI Live Packs, so that you can use them in any DAW that you might be working with.
The Fairlight CMI, short for Computer Musical Instrument, is a digital synthesiser, sampler and digital audio workstation introduced in 1979. Early adopters were Peter Gabriel, Thomas Dolby and Kate Bush.
SB Fairlight CMI Samples includes the following folders containing over 500 wav files from a CMI IIx model:
- Guitars
- Drums & Percussion
- Strings
- Mallets, Bells & Harpsichords
- Brass
- Humans
- Keyboard & Piano
- Reeds & Winds
- Sound Effects 1
- Sound Effects 2
I would welcome a small donation if you are able to do so as a way of saying thank you. Otherwise just add a zero to the price field. Gumroad no longer offers PayPal as an option, so if you’d like to donate using PayPal, you can do so above. Thank you very much!

Love the sound effects, sounds awesome! Instant kinda retro-movie vibes. I think the strings will come to good use over here also 🙂 Thanks a bunch!
Thank you for this Madeleine.
Hi Madeleine,
Great stuff.
I’ve comitted myself to executing the tedious job of pouring all your great samples into EXS24 instruments for Logic. You can download them here (only available for a while). I’m sure some of your customers will be extremely pleased if you can offer them this as a little extra, since it will save them many hours of annoying work and make all your samples directly accessible. When working with Logic Pro obviously.
Here you go (only 8,3MB): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/or40cghhw3zmu0w/AABsrR2koiX6VbJJPJHFuLfka?dl=0
Cheerio!
Great. Thanks.
Hi Kristof. Are you still making these files available for logic users? I’d be very appreciative.
Hi Kristof,
I found your post just now.
Could you please make your EXS24 Instruments available again?
Thank you very very much in advance!!!

Hi! Frist of all, thanks a lot for theses samples. ^^ However, I am having a little problem. I actually am not a user of ableton, ad i really need those instruments for a retro-styled project. Do you think it would be possible to haver the .wav files?
I am very sorry for asking this ^^” I hope it’s no bother….
Ooops, never mind. I guess somehow I ended up on the wrong page, and therefore downloaded the ableton pack by mistake, thinking it was the only available format. It’s especially dumb from my part considering that I ended up leaving a comment on THIS page of all places ^^”
I can’t even begin to describe or stupid I feel right now ^^”
Sorry for that….
Hi Madeleine,
Thanks for this sample pack an i one question can i use this sample on my commercial song projects
Yes, they’re royalty free.
Are these single note samples? I’d like to be able to use these sounds and load them into my Prophet X sampler. A lot of the Fairlight packs I’ve downloaded in the past have been phrases played on a Fairlight and sampled. I’m just looking for ones that are simply a single middle C played for the extent of the sample etc.
Yes, they’re all individually sampled notes.
very very nice phase sound AD converters of today even in 24bit cannot equal this 14bit !
Are these taken from the Fairlight CMI directly?
Yes, they’re original recordings of the Fairlight CMI.
Is it ok to use these in presets for a synth that I eventually might sell?
Also, did you have a Fairlight yourself that you sampled?
Thanks!
No, they’re free to use in your own music only. Nothing else commercially allowed.
