Ableton has finally released the Live 12.1 update and it comes with a lot of new features. In this video tutorial, we’ll focus on the new MIDI tools that have been added. First we’ll look at the three new MIDI transformation tools: Chop, Glissando and LFO. We’ll also take a look at the new Filter and Select functions for MIDI clips.

Chop MIDI Tool
Located in the Transform tab/panel, the new Chop MIDI Tool lets you chop selected notes into up to 64 parts. You can also select or create patterns for note chunks and gaps, expand selected chunks relative to others, and add random variations.
MPE MIDI Tools: Glissando and LFO
New MPE MIDI Tools, Glissando and LFO, allow users to create curves for the MPE parameters of selected notes, visible in the Clip Content Editor’s MPE view mode. Glissando links successive notes by adjusting the shape and starting point of the pitch bend envelope. LFO sets an oscillating envelope for selected notes’ MPE parameters, with options for shape, rate and global amplitude envelope.
Filter and Select MIDI Notes
The MIDI Note Editor now has a new feature called Find and Select Notes, which allows users to search for specific notes using various filters. These filters include Pitch, Time, Velocity, Random, Duration, Count, Condition and Scale. Users can enable Find and Select Notes by clicking the magnifying glass button in the Clip Content Editor Settings. This feature allows users to find and select notes for further transformation. You can even combine the filters to fine-tune the selection by simply holding Shift.
