Since Ableton started releasing new devices and features not only in upgrades but also in updates to Live, the focus has been on these major changes. However, there are often plenty of small features that, collectively, can have a significant positive impact on your workflow. This is also true of the Ableton Live 12.3 release, so let’s take a look at the small features and improvements that are definitely worth knowing about.
Watch the Video:
1. Warp Clip Start in Multi Clip Editing
If you have audio clips that have the same length and warp markers, you can finally select them all together and use the command ‘Set 1.1.1 Here’ in the context menu.
2. Empty MIDI Clip Fills
This works even if the grid cell that was right-clicked isn’t completely empty. Instead, the newly created empty MIDI clip will fill the available space.
3. Shortcuts for Filter View and Tag Editor
With the browser in focus, which can be achieved with Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + 5, you can use the following shortcuts to show or hide the Filter View and Tag Editor, respectively:
- Filter View: Ctrl + Alt + G (Win) / Cmd + Option + G (Mac)
- Tag Editor: Ctrl Shift E (Win) / Cmd Shift E (Mac).
4. Quick Tags Quick Search
You can add a tag from the Quick Tags panel to the search field to trigger a tag search by double-clicking it.
5. Show tag X in Tag Editor
Right- or control-clicking one of the quick tags and selecting the new ‘Show tag X in Tag Editor’ option from the context menu opens the Tag Editor and moves the focus to the tag.
6. Hide Push, Cloud & Splice Labels
If you have neither a Push 3 Standalone, Move, Note, or a Splice account, you’d been stuck with their labels before. The Live 12.3 update finally allows you to hide them individually with a context menu command – “Hide from Sidebar”. In Live’s Settings, there are also corresponding options under Library > Browser Behavior.
7. Faster High Quality Stem Separation on Windows
If high quality stem separation takes a long time on your Windows machine, you can try adding the following command to the Options.txt file to possibly vastly improve performance:
-_Feature.StemSeparation.ForceGPUAccelerator=true
