Ableton Live Insider Tips – Options.txt Part 2 (Video Tutorial) – Secret Features

Part 2 of my new series “Ableton Live Insider Tips” explains two more commands of the Options.txt file, EnableMapToSiblings and AutoAdjustMacroMappingRange. Both make mapping controls to macros in Racks faster and more efficient.

  1. Madeleine! These are absolutely brilliant!! Thank you so much for sharing 🙂 Every once in a while I seem to come across a few cool Options.txt commands, and now I’m wondering if a comprehensive list of them exists anywhere (if brief explanations are included, so much the better). I’ve searched a bit without much success, as I think the most current list I found was from the days of Live 4. If you know of such a resource and would share it that would be amazing, but either way thanks a million!! All the best.

      1. Gotcha, maybe I’ll take a poke around inside the binary then. Those 3 you shared are brilliant. Thanks 🙂

  2. I always get this message

The options file [Options.txt] contains an unknown option ‘-ShowDeviceSlots\’ which will be ignored.

  3. hi Madeleine, this is an amazing secret! Can you help me with a mapping? I really want to assign a controller button to switch device/clip view. You can do this on the apc40 with a dedicated button but sometimes I use a smaller controller. Is there a way to create this mapping using one Options.txt command?

thanks so much, I love your site

    1. This is something that is written into the Python script aka the Control Surface for the APC40. It’s possible to do for other controllers as well that don’t have a control surface, but you need to know how to programme with Python. I know of people working on easy solutions for mapping that don’t require programming skills, but they’re not released yet. The Options.txt won’t help you here.
