LK, an iOS and Android controller app for Ableton Live, already came out in early March. Formerly known as LIVKONTROL by Imaginando, LK has gotten a complete overhaul. With version 1.0.4 out now, it has gotten another bunch of improvements and a brand new feature: USB wired connection for both iOS and Android devices. A fail safe for when there are wi-fi interferences, a lot of live performers will appreciate.
By now there are countless key layouts at our disposal. Traditional ones like the piano roll or the layout in fourths (string instruments, e.g. the guitar) that require knowledge in music theory as well as modern ones created to make playing easy even for those who don't know anything about it. Fingertip MIDI is virtual MIDI controller for iPhone and iPad that allows you to control any MIDI capable software. And it falls squarely into the second category.
For those of you working on a Mac OS X with a big plug-in library there's now Auganizer. This app allows you to organise all your Audio Unit plug-ins however you want. This way you can come up with your own way of sorting them to find the ones you want to use in a production much faster.
This week, the Musikmesse is happening in Frankfurt again. There are some products directly aimed at the use with Ableton Live and since this is a site about Ableton Live, I'll focus on those.
Sound Chopper is an application built in Max/MSP and for Mac OS X by sound designer Matteo Cerquone. It allows you to manipulate and transform pre-recorded sound through its many sound effects such as pitch shifter, reverb, delay and looper etc.
There are quite a few touchscreen controller apps available for iPhone and iPad, even if you only count the ones dedicated to controlling Ableton Live. Not so on the Android app market. LivKontrol is the only controller for Live that is available for both iOS and Android.
A week ago I wrote about Eric Ameres's Max for Live devices that allow detaching the Session View or its mixer and even individual devices. He's been busy developing a standalone version for OS X that you can use with all versions of Ableton Live without the need for Max for Live.
