LOOPO – Max for Live MIDI Looper for More Intuitive Recording of Session View Clips & Improvisation

LOOPO is a MIDI effect to make recording and layering MIDI clips in Ableton Live’s Session View much simpler and more intuitive. This makes it especially useful for improvisation.

Hit ‘REC’ and start playing whenever you’re ready. LOOPO will wait for you to play something and only then start recording. It can record ‘master clips’ that set Live’s tempo and then record ‘slave clips’ in sync. Slave clips’ can be recorded at any point in the playing bar, independent of Live’s launch quantisation settings. LOOPO will take care of syncing the clips for you.

LOOPO

Features:

  • Automatic arming of selected MIDI track
  • Record ‘slave clip’ when starting to play (TRIG) or when the next bar begins (1.1.1)
  • Set quantisation to FIXED (1 bar, 2 bars, 1/2 bar, 1/3 triplets) or until you hit Slave again (FREE)
  • Overdub with independent undo history
  • Display of clip name, length in beats and indicator of clip slots status (playing, stopped or empty)
  • Move through Session View with arrow keys
  • Launch and stop clips
  • Duplicate notes between the loop braces
  • Clear all notes in selected clip
  • Delete selected clip

  1. Hi and welcome back. I don’t seem to be able to get consistent results with this max for live device LOOPO. Sometimes it records and sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes it midi maps and sometimes it doesn’t. Turn it on turn it off, etc. It has some potential but I think there are quite a few issues with it imho. I wish I hadn’t purchased the full version without using the demo a little more. I hope this doesn’t come across as too obnoxious, I really have tried to get it working, but is there a better version in the works? Do you have any suggestions?

  2. Just verbalizing as a way of motivating myself to figure out what’s going on. It seems to be a tool I often use to work through the learning g curve. Once I write it down it starts to become clear what the issues are. I guess I chose you because the developer is un-available as far as I can tell. Thank you for all the blog stuff you do.
